Why a “matching” tracksuit set sometimes doesn’t match

Fabric is dyed in batches. Two pieces dyed from the same color formula but a different batch — a different dye lot — can carry a visible shade difference even under the same stated color name (Pantone reference or not). It rarely shows on a single garment. On a matched set worn together, in daylight, on large solid-color panels, it is the first thing a customer notices.

This is why suppliers who source the hoodie and the joggers separately — or run them through the dye house on different days — end up shipping sets that are “close enough” rather than matched. Ask any tracksuit supplier directly: are the top and bottom cut from the same dye lot, or just the same color name?

We cut both pieces of a set from one dye lot in one production run. It costs nothing extra and it is the difference between a set and two separate garments that happen to be a similar color.

Building a contrast or color-blocked set instead? Different rules apply. If the top and bottom are deliberately different colors, there is no single dye lot to match against — each piece is dyed to its own color as normal. Tell us at the enquiry stage whether you want a matched set or a contrast set; it changes how we plan the fabric run, not the price.

Which Tracksuit Program Do You Actually Need?

These run on the fabric and construction we already use for our hoodie and jogger programs. Tell us which one you are building.

Fleece & French Terry Tracksuits

Hoodie or crewneck top, jogger or straight-leg bottom, in the same French terry, brushed fleece or loopback fabrics we already run for our hoodie and sweatpants programs — sourced from 240 GSM lightweight up to 400 GSM+ heavyweight. This is the large majority of what we make as sets, because the fabric and construction are already proven on both pieces individually.

Performance & Activewear Tracksuits

Poly-spandex or nylon-spandex tracksuits for gym, running or team-branded athleisure use the same stretch fabric as our activewear program rather than knit fleece. Tell us at the enquiry stage — the fabric sourcing, seam type and pricing are different from a fleece set.

What We Do Not Make

Woven nylon shell track jackets with taped or bonded seams belong to our outerwear program, not this one — different fabric, different line. And we do not match a set against a fabric you sourced elsewhere; dye-lot matching only works when we control both pieces from the same fabric batch.

Which Top and Bottom Combinations Can You Build?

These are the pairings we run regularly for tracksuit and sweatsuit sets. If yours is not on the list, ask — most requests are a variation on one of these.

How Long Does a Custom Tracksuit Order Take, and Where Does the Time Go?

A set takes a little longer than a single garment, for one specific reason.

1. Tech pack or reference set, plus fabric and GSM decision

We need the top and bottom specs together, not one now and one later — the fabric run has to be booked as a single batch large enough for both pieces before dyeing starts.

2. Pattern and proto sample, both pieces

Top and bottom are patterned and sampled together so you approve the set as a set, not two separate fit rounds landing on different days.

3. Dyeing, as one batch

This is the step a set adds that a single garment does not. Both pieces’ fabric is dyed together in the same lot, then held for cutting — this is what makes the color match a fact, not a promise.

In practice, batching the dye run for both pieces adds roughly 2–3 days to the front of the schedule compared to a single-garment order — not to bulk production itself.

4. Cut, sew, trims

Zippers, drawcords and rib cuffs sourced and applied to both pieces from the same trim run, so hardware finish matches across the set as well as the fabric.

5. Bulk, inspection, shipping

AQL 2.5 inspection on both pieces before the balance payment moves. FOB Shanghai or Ningbo.

What Makes One Tracksuit Set Cost More Than Another?

Fabric weight (GSM). 240–280 GSM French terry is the entry tier; 400 GSM+ heavyweight terry costs more on both pieces and reads as a heavier, more substantial set. Weight should match on top and bottom — a heavy hoodie over lightweight joggers is a common first-order mismatch.

Construction detail. Raglan vs. set-in sleeve on the top, elastic vs. ribbed cuff on the bottom — each adds sewing steps rather than fabric cost, but the steps add up across two garments instead of one.

Hardware. A full-zip top with YKK zippers and matching drawcords on the bottom costs more than a pullover crewneck and elastic-waist joggers — and hardware finish is one of the first things a customer checks on a set they paid a premium for.

Decoration placement. Logo on the chest only is cheaper than logo on chest plus leg plus back — every additional placement is a separate production step on top of the base garment cost.

Who Should Use a Chinese Tracksuit Factory?

Streetwear and casualwear brands adding a matched tracksuit or sweatsuit set drop to an existing hoodie and jogger range, without sourcing two separate suppliers and hoping the colors line up.

Athleisure and lounge brands building a core “uniform” piece around one silhouette, where reorder consistency across colorways matters more than novelty.

Team and corporate programs where a matched top-and-bottom kit is the actual deliverable, not two line items that happen to ship in the same box.

Who it is not for: anyone who wants to mix a garment we made with a garment sourced elsewhere and still get a dye-lot guarantee — that only works when we control the whole batch.

One Factory for the Set, or Two Separate Suppliers?

Most brands already have a hoodie supplier and a jogger supplier before they think about selling them as a set. Here is what changes when one factory builds both pieces instead.

Custom Tracksuit Manufacturer FAQ

We cut both pieces from the same dye lot, in the same production run, by default. Fabric dyed in separate batches can carry a visible shade difference even under the same stated color name, and it shows up more on a matched set worn together than on a single garment. Ask any tracksuit supplier directly whether the top and bottom are cut from the same dye lot or just the same color name — most sourcing separately can’t guarantee it.

100 sets per colorway, sizes split freely within that 100 on both top and bottom. Each additional colorway is its own 100-set dye lot, since matching a new color means dyeing a new batch.

A French terry set (240-280 GSM top and bottom) starts from $8.07/set FOB at 100 sets, combining our published hoodie ($4.80/pc) and jogger ($3.27/pc) base pricing at matching fabric weight. Heavier fabric, performance stretch material, or added hardware move the price the same way they do on our individual hoodie and jogger pages.

No. The dye-lot match only works when we control the fabric batch for both pieces. If the bottom is sourced elsewhere, we can produce a top in the same stated color, but we cannot guarantee it will match a garment dyed in someone else’s batch.

Yes, using the same poly-spandex or nylon-spandex stretch fabric as our activewear programme, rather than knit fleece. Flag this at enquiry stage since the fabric sourcing, seam type and pricing differ from a fleece set.

The whole colorway batch is held. If the hoodie passes AQL 2.5 but the joggers do not, we do not ship the hoodies alone and call the order complete — the failing piece is reworked or remade, and the set ships together once both pass. You are not left holding half a set while the other half is redone.

Yes — “sweatsuit” and “tracksuit” describe the same matched top-and-bottom set we make, in the same fleece or French terry. The single dye-lot matching applies either way.
